Green light for the 3 Chamonix World Cups
21/01/2024
100 years of ski racing in Chamonix!
FIS Snow Control has just confirmed the three Men's Alpine Skiing World Cup events to be held from 2 to 4 February 2024 in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc: two downhill runs and a slalom on the famous "La Verte des Houches" piste.
Cyprien Sarrazin is already the superstar of this historic Kandahar which marks the centenary of the first Winter Olympic Games in Chamonix, but also the 100th anniversary of the French Ski Federation (FFS) and the International Ski Federation (FIS)!
He is joined by Clément Noël, who has already won the Chamonix event twice and is also a favourite at this event, as is homegrown Blaise Giezendanner, who finished 7th in Saturday's downhill in Kitzbühel (read his analysis of the piste below). But it's surely the current 'crazy' spirit of the French team and its athletes (Nils Allegre, Steven Amiez, etc.) ready for any feat that will thrill the 50,000 spectators expected over the 3 days.
The Chamonix valley always attracts a cosmopolitan crowd who flock to the historic and eternal Kandahar, starting with the Swiss and Italians, our close neighbours!
"SNOW CONTROL VALIDATED, this Sunday 21 January
"This morning we carried out the Snow Control in the presence of Emmanuel Couder representing the FIS, piste managers Tony Angiboust (for the downhill) and Thomas Grand Clément (for the slalom), accompanied by Victorien Emonet, LHSG operations manager, and the snowmakers. The work done by the teams to optimise snow production and make the piste safe means that the races can now be validated. We still have the final sprint to prepare the piste for safety, which will be very busy over the next few days so that the world's best skiers can enjoy the 'Verte' in all its glory.
Fred Comte, Director of the Chamonix Sports Club.
